The Snoring Dog's Waltz
The Snoring Dog's Waltz is one of my older fiddle tunes. It was inspired by my dog Spike who often laid down in the living room and proceeded to snore. Recorded by Amy Leonard, violin; E. Shawn Qaissaunee, guitar; and Peter McCarthy, bass.
This tune might come as a surprise to those who have become familiar with my jazz writing. It is meant to sound old and rootsy...without a hint of jazz in it. My interest in traditional music is sometimes reflected in originals that blend jazz and fiddle music such as October Joy and New Market. However, The Snoring Dog's Waltz is one that is entirely in a roots music style. Nevertheless, I can envision some jazz groups playing it, as something different from their usual material, in a spirit of fearless fun and adventure.
The Snoring Dog's Waltz was used in my video Saving The Farmhouse (Morgan County page). The video is a thank you to the people who worked on our old farmhouse in WV. It was an amazing transformation!
