Heron Over An Icy Pond
This is an older tune that I dusted off several years ago. It is a minor key jazz waltz with minor 9th and major 7th chords over a pedal point through much of the tune and a brief touch of shifting time. Note: the recording is a tune demo, not a full-length performance. Recorded by Amy Leonard, violin; E. Shawn Qaissaunee, guitar; Peter McCarthy, bass; and Skip Rohrich, drums.
When performing this piece it is important to play the F# minor 7th chords without a G# (9th) in the voicings. This is to distinguish them from the A major 7th chords. Solos use the tune's 42-bar form.
