The piece draws upon various roots-based styles including blues, Appalachian, tango, jazz, and samba. While the music was originally written for guitar, it can be easily adapted for piano and small groups.

I wrote the blog after several friends asked me about my goals. It was interesting to reread what I had written close to 2 years ago.

Many good things have been happening in most of the areas: #1 people listening to my music online, #3 new recordings and videos of my music, and #4 music publishing and licensing.

On an average, a thousand people visit my website each month and (hopefully) listen to the recordings. I'm extremely happy with the new recordings David Arivett, James Barr, and Tom Puwalski made for me in 2015. Another new thing is Robert Peak using my music in his videos. Thanks guys!!

The most unexpected developments happened this year with #4 music publishing and licensing. Thanks to my involvement with Composers & Schools in Concert and their recent collaboration with Sheet Music Plus, I now have a selection of my lead sheets and ensemble scores for sale at SMP. Additionally, my interest in music licensing (for film, TV, and other media) expanded this year to include Directional Music (NYC) and Zudo (Santa Fe) after my work was accepted for their catalogs.

The one area that lags behind the others is #2 iive performances of my music. Happily, some of my pieces have received performances. In paricular, I give thanks to George Spicka for including some of my pieces in his concerts in Baltimore. However, I would like to have more live performances to balance the online listening. Live performances -- in particular, when the music goes in creative directions within the moment -- are a whole other thing from recordings. It is my hope that as more ensembles, directors, and schools discover my music at Sheet Music Plus there can be more performances.

Finally, the teaching that I'm doing this year at Sandy Spring Friends School came as a surprise. It was not on my radar when I wrote my music goals in 2014. Many thanks to Bryan Seith (music teacher at SSFS) for making this happen! Another wonderful surprise in 2015 has been my series of interviews on Rich Pulian's internet radio show. Rich's jazz show has an international audience. It is an honor for Rich, a veteran arranger and musician, to take such an interest in my work.

Being a curious person, it will be exciting to see what unfolds in the coming year. Perhaps more things that I have not envisioned. It is especially cool when that happens. HAPPY NEW YEAR (early greetings)!

I understand that not everyone is going to get everything that I do. It beautifully captures the spirit of this piece. It can be heard at the Fanfare page on my website. The ensemble sound is different from his other recordings for me. It has a trumpet section added to a mid-size ensemble with soprano sax, alto sax, trombone, tuba, and rhythm section (with Brazilian percussion). ]]><![CDATA[Rich Pulin Jazz Program 11/30/15]]>Sun, 29 Nov 2015 23:34:05 GMThttp://www.rogeraldridge.com/news--blog/rich-pulin-jazz-program-113015Rich Pulin will have another 1-hour interview with me on his 'Pulin 4 Jazz' internet radio program.
